Frank Skinner seeks counselling to save ‘volatile’ relationship with partner Cath Mason
Frank Skinner and long term partner Cath
“I always knew I didn’t want to be with anyone else but we had so many rows that I couldn’t cope and would walk away,” Frank, 57 – who has been with Cath, mother of his two–year–old son Buzz, for 14 years – tells Radio Times.
He says their constant rowing and splitting–up cycle eventually forced him to seek professional help.
“For the first 10 years it was on–off and very volatile. Neither of us thought we could bring a child into that.
“We once split up because we disagreed about the colour of my hair! So I did two commitment things – I asked her to move in and said let’s have counselling [about six years ago].
I didn’t have much faith in it but it was brilliant.”
However despite their relationship now being far better Frank says that Cath, a comedy agent, is still reluctant to marry him.
His 45–year-old better half has apparently turned down his proposals on four occasions.
“I don’t see why we don’t get married,” he says. “But her mum and dad got divorced so she thinks marriage puts a hoodoo on a relationship.”
