How Melania Trump copied Jackie Kennedy’s style to win the hearts of Americans
Melania Trump, 47, is married to President Donald Trump, 71 – and is constantly wowing the world with her First Lady wardrobe.
In 2000, when her husband – then boyfriend – considered running for President the first time, Melania revealed to the New York Times she would like to be “like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy” if she ever got the chance to live in the White House.
Since Melania stepped out for Donald’s inauguration in a Ralph Lauren powder blue dress with matching gloves, Jackie comparisons have been rife.
How has Melania channeled Jackie Kennedy’s style since she became First Lady?
Melania has adopted many colours Jackie herself wore, including bright red. Jackie Kennedy wore a red skirt suit with a pillar box hat to discuss plans for the new National Culture Center in 1962 in the White House.
Melania updated the look when she wore a red Dior skirt suit to meet French First Lady Brigitte Macron in Paris on July 13 2007.
She has also adopted various coat looks that Jackie made famous.
This includes a camel coat with she wore in at Heathrow Airport near London, circa June 1971.
Melania wore hers when her husband was a nominee, as she attended a polling station to make her vote during the 2016 presidential elections on November 8, 2016.
Jackie Kennedy wore a stunning white trench coat to walk through an airport circa 1966 in Florida with her husband John F. Kennedy.
The current First Lady wore her update on the look to attend NBC’s Today Trump Town Hall at Rockefeller Plaza on April 21, 2016.
To meet Prince Harry at the Invictus Games September 23, 2017 in Tornonto, Canada, Melania wore a wide leg, chic check suits – which could be reference to the suit Jackie wore at the Whitney Museum in New York City on October 21, 1965.
Both women have a well-documented love of large sunglasses and large accessories.
Melania channelled Jackie when she visited Saudi Arabia by wearing a large gold belt with a square buckle, and large gold jewellery.
Recently, Melania Trump stole the show in a stunning brocade dress at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
She gave a speech as she donated her Herve Pierre inaugural ball dress to the museum.
