Madonna: Material girl still loves to shock in provocative new photo shoot
The material girl is as provocative as ever in new photoshoot
Despite having her then 12–year old son Rocco on stage with her and being in a strict Muslim country where swearing in public is an offence that could result in imprisonment, she dropped the F–word from the off.
Shocking? Not really. For Madonna has spent decades leaving her public aghast and, now aged 56, her ongoing attempts at outrageousness are beginning to feel a little passé.
I was in the audience in Abu Dhabi that night and it was more a case of, “Oh, here she goes again” rather than being seduced by her risqué behaviour.
Honestly I don’t think I’m as tough as I should be. It’s hard [being a parent] – every day is a negotiation
Certainly she attracted much criticism for her outlandish attempts to shock during that MDNA tour in 2012. But Madonna is undeterred. And in a bid to grab headlines again she has posed for a series of raunchy pictures, exposing her breasts in one and wearing a sexy black corset in another for the US magazine Interview.
Some have applauded her for championing nudity as a middle–aged woman. For others the irony is that it has all become boringly predictable behaviour from the mother of four.
Then again, she wouldn’t be Madonna if she didn’t at least try to raise eyebrows. It has been her brand for 30 years. There have been illicit liaisons with famous men including Warren Beatty, lesbian love affairs and admissions of getting high on drugs – at total odds with her fitness obsession.
This is not the first time she has posed naked either. When she was 18 she famously posed for several nude photos for Herman Kulkens.
PROVOCATIVE: Madonna poses in new shoot
In the midst of all this she had a short–lived marriage to actor Sean Penn. Three years later in 1992 she released her coffee table book entitled Sex, which saw her reveal herself fully. But for many Madonna’s biggest “reveal” arguably came in 1996 when she conceived daughter Lourdes, 18, with personal trainer Carlos Leon.
In 2000 she married British film director Guy Ritchie, with whom she had Rocco, now 14, and has also adopted two children from Malawi: David Banda and Mercy James, both nine.
While married to Ritchie, she settled into a pad in London and a £10million estate in Wiltshire. After they divorced in 2008 she set up home in New York with her kids in a mansion built from three townhouses on the Upper East Side. It’s anyone’s guess how much time she spends there as neighbours report seeing her very little.
Her heart seems to belong as much in Malawi, the impoverished country she first visited in 2006 and where her charity Raising Malawi funds orphanages and schools.
In fact this week’s semi–naked photos are a world away from the touching snaps she posted on Instagram just a few days ago charting her latest Malawi trip.
